Gangchon Elysian Ski Resort
Gangchon Elysian Ski Resort is located in Chuncheon, an outskirt of Seoul that can be reached in 1.5 hours by car which is the nearest ski resort from Seoul.
You can feel the beautiful nature and surroundings near the hectic city where you can enjoy and relax not far from Seoul, is frequently visited by day-trippers. Due to its convenient location, there are several popular attractions near the resort such as Nami Island, the Garden of Morning Calm.
The ski resort is situated within a beautiful valley and offers a picturesque view of the natural scenery while skiing and gliding down the slopes. It provides 12 slopes and divided for different levels depend on your ski skills; beginners, intermediates and advanced. There are also snow sleds, ski slope for infants and children are available too. All visitors can enjoy a variety of winter sport activities in the resort.

It is 63 km away from Seoul in the direction of Chuncheon city, and is famous for its beautiful tree lined roads. Since it is not far from the capital, it became a popular place for families and many couples to visit. Although, it is a small island, it offers a zoo, botanical garden, and scenic sights that can be enjoyed by boat, bicycle, or electric car. Nami Island is the perfect backdrop for a budding romance.
Also, one of Korea’s biggest mega-hit dramas ‘Winter Sonata’ was shot there. ‘Winter Sonata’ fans from all over Asia stop by Nami Island to reminisce their favorite scenes. There are even international festivals held there annually. You can take a walk along the “Forest of Sweethearts” where Junsang and Yoojin kissed for the first time in this forest. There will be warm greetings from ostriches, rabbits, deer and other animals that live in the forest freely.

‘Winter Sonata’-Korean Drama
A lonely young man called Kang Joon Sang (Bae Yong Joon) and Jung Eugene (Choi Ji Woo) are classmates and they fall in love with each other. An unfortunate accident occurs, which ends their happiness. Ten years on a lot has changed and Jung Eugene meets a guy called Lee Min Hyung (Bae Yong Joon) who has come from America. Everything about Lee Min Hyung is the same as Kang Joon Sang ten years ago, but Lee Min Hyung does not recognize Jung Eugene. Jung Eugene gradually falls in love with Lee Min Hyung and she faces a lot of difficulties. The love triangle between Jung Eugene, her fiancé Kim Sang Hyuk (Park Yong Ha) and Lee Min Hyung is very complicated. Finally, when Eugene and Lee Min Hyung get together, they discover the true facts that separated them.

Garden of Morning Calm – Lighting Festival
The Garden of Morning Calm, a 30,000㎡ flower garden, opens year-round for your enjoyment. The garden is the oldest among private Korean gardens. It is an artistic space with a beautiful balance between Korean concepts of natural curves and asymmetry, plants and other various materials.
It was the first to adopt the concept of a “garden” in Korea, and it is a special place that harmonizes classical grace and modern beauty. The Sukgeun Garden is shaped like the Korean Peninsula and is carpeted with so many kinds of beautiful flowers on both sides representing the desire for South and North Korea to be reunited. It is easily one of the most popular and meaningful attractions of the garden. It has about 5,000 kinds of plants, including 300 varieties.
The Garden of Morning Calm hosts special festival in winter as Lighting Festival features three million lights decorating the winter garden.
Lighting Festival (Beg. of Dec. ~ Beg. of Mar.)
Held at the Garden of Morning Calm, the Lighting Festival is the biggest festival of lights in Korea, covering 100 thousand pyeong illuminated by 30,000 lights. The Garden of Morning Calm hosts festivals every season and the gleaming lights add a festive glow to the garden during the winter season especially. Every side of the park is full of flickering lights of various colors that adorn the trees which makes colorful, calm, romantic, and lovely atmosphere of the garden. There are 6 main gardens which are Hakyung Garden, Hometown House Garden, Bonsai Garden, Moonlight Garden, Sky Path and Garden of Eden.
Yongpyeong Ski Resort
Yongpyeong Ski Resort is the biggest ski and snowboard resort in Korea and was established in 1975 as the first modern facility in South Korea. It is located at the foot of Mt. Balwangsan in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province.
The area’s annual snowfall is around 250 centimeters which makes the perfect place to ride ski and snowboard. It offers the spectacular environment due to the huge size of 4300 acres that allows enjoying a wide array of winter sports including skiing, snowboarding and snow sliding or gold courses, European-style condominiums and many other leisure facilities that can be experienced by all visitors. It has 28 slopes, 13 ski lifts and 1 gondola at a length of 3.7 km.
The resort has hosted several events in the past and the latest one was the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games. If you are an advanced skier, you can try the Dragon zone that has five rainbow slopes. The rainbow slope is the highest slope of all and is also designated as the site for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, a 5.6 km-long slope at 5,600 meters which is the second-longest slope in the country. Also, the resort was appeared in the several famous dramas such as “Winter Sonata”, “That Winter, the Wind Blows”, “Goblin” and etc. The resort is opened for winter season from mid-November to early April.
Mt. Balwangsan - Yongpyeong Ski Resort
: The 13th highest mountain in South Korea
Here you will find snow in the winter, colorful leaves in the fall, green forests in the summer and fresh flowers in the spring.
Mt. Balwangsan is situated at 1,458m about sea level and is the 13th highest mountain in South Korea as part of the mountainous region that forms the waist line of the Korean peninsula. With Yongpyeong Resort, You can enjoy both hiking and skiing in the winter season, much like in the Alps.
At the peak of Mt. Balwangsan, there is a Swiss style building called Dragon Peak and Skywalk. Both of these structures have become another enjoyable theme of Mt. Balwangsan.
Dragon Peak
You will find a coffee shop with a traditional Swiss atmosphere where has been filmed a famous soap opera “Winter Sonata”. There is a Korean restaurant and a steak house on the first floor. On the second floor, you will find a western-style restaurant famous for their spaghetti. It is almost a requirement to enjoy a cup of coffee while you soak in the nature while you are here.
Also the view of the sunrise from Dragon Peak will capture your heart with its magnificent colors stretching out from the eastern sea.

The Yongpyeong Resort has created this Sky walk in Aug. 2020 for those who visit Dragon Peak.
You can enjoy a variety of scenery of the mountains and beautiful resort.
